Peter Foster

Peter read Music at the Queen's College, Oxford, where he studied performance on the clarinet, and had his first opportunities to try conducting with the college choir and orchestra.

After postgraduate study at Reading University he has pursued a range of musical interests including church music, composition, chamber music and conducting.

He performs around the area as a clarinettist and pianist with a number of chamber ensembles.

He has conducted choirs extensively in works including Bach's St. John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Mozart's Requiem and C-minor Mass, Haydn's Creation and Brahms's German Requiem.

He is organist and Director of Music at St. Helen's Church, Abingdon, where he leads the choir and curates a wide-ranging concert series.

Most of his compositions are sacred, and have been performed by groups including Voces8, St. Pancras Church Choir, The Queen's Chapel of the Savoy and Exeter University Chapel Choir, as well as his own choirs.

Since leaving university he has worked in a number of roles in Music education, and is currently Director of Music at Oxford High School, where he leads an ambitious and exciting Music programme.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and holds a diploma in conducting.

When he needs a break from music, he relaxes by cooking spicy food, reading books about history and playing cricket.
