Emily Ormerod
Emily is an Oxford-based musician who teaches and performs in and around Oxfordshire as well as in London.
She has been leading the SGO since she was sixteen with a few years break in between.
Gaining much experience leading the SGO, Headington Singers Orchestra, and performing various violin and piano concertos with most of Oxfordshire's orchestras as well as in many local London orchestras, Emily went on to study the violin with Simon Fisher and piano with Susan Max at Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Later, Emily studied at the U.C.N.W. Bangor under the professorship of John Harper who had previously been at Magdalen College Oxford. Here she continued the violin with Edward Davies and the piano with Jana Frenklova.
Emily has taught piano and violin at various local schools including working with choristers learning the piano at New College School, The Dragon, Wychwood, The Unicorn, and St. Edwards coaching strings for the school orchestra.
Unusual experiences include leading a Promenaders' Orchestra included in a documentary about the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, and leading an orchestra in celebration of music making within the EU outside the Royal Albert Hall on Last Night of the Proms.
Emily is currently in the process of setting up an Oxford Tango Orchestra.
